Ski Pumps Overhauled

These pumps and bowl assemblies were completely overhauled at our new Repair Facility in Scarborough, Maine.   They are vertical turbine pumps that had been in use for years.  Over time, they had lost performance to the point that they started to have problems, and the snow operations manager decided it was time for a change.  Now, once installed, these booster pumps will increase the flow and pressure to the snow guns at a popular New England ski resort.

We evaluated the pumps and determined that a different impeller pattern could provide higher performance at a lower cost as well as run better in a variable speed operation.  Once installed, we will test them to provide a baseline for future operations.  Having these pumps sandblasted and powder coated will help to prolong their life by reducing rust formation that increases friction and causes loss of performance.
The installation process includes a crane to lift and position the pumps.  Connection to the  water piping, and connection of power for the motors and testing which all occur before the official start-up day.  Pressure and flow are tested to be sure the performance is as we require.

The functionality of the pumps is important, and poor operation costs money!   Our TDM service techs will ensure they are working at top performance for this season.  This will optimize snowmaking capacity while reducing energy consumption for the mountain!

When the mountain is ready to roll, they will pump water to the snow guns, which, when mixed with compressed air in cold temperatures, equals snow!   Fun times will be had for 2012-13 ski season!
